CHRONOLOGY
  • October 1997 - Dr. Ed Shirley hires Tom Manuel to be Northwest's Athletic Director.
  • March 1998 - Athletic Director Tom Manuel hires 24-year old Wootton HS assistant football coach Randy Trivers.
  • Randy Trivers hires friend and former high school teammate Andrew Fields who was coaching at Poolesville, Mike Neubeiser from Gaithersburg, and then B-CC head coach Jim Tapley. Kris Wappaus and Dan Halem, two more former high school teammates of Trivers, would help out with the passing league team.
  • June 1998 - The mascot "Jaguars" and school colors, black, silver, white" have been chosen.
  • June 1998 - Trivers and his staff conducts a meeting at Kingsview Middle School to meet with students from Seneca Valley and Quince Orchard High Schools that live in the NWHS boundary and are interested in playing football. Trivers introduces "TEAMPLEDGE".
  • July 1998 - Football workouts were held four times a week for two hours at the Quince Orchard HS track and weight room.
  • Aug 14, 1998 - the first 2-a-day practices are held at the current site of The Cedar Creek Park on the corner of Richter Farm Road and Molasses Run Drive. The team had to borrow extra practice pants and pads from Wootton HS, and helmets from Magruder HS.
  • NWHS opened in August 31, 1998 with 875 students.
  • Sep 4, 1998 - Northwest opens against Wootton.
  • Oct 24, 1998 - Northwest defeats Kennedy High School 35-6 at Brady Staub Stadium.. It was the first victory in team history, 50 days after the first game.
  • Oct 30, 1998 - Northwest defeats Cardozo HS; Marking the first victory at home and the school's first multi-win streak.
  • 1999 - Everett Cammack joins the coaching football staff.
  • Oct 1, 1999 - Northwest plays Seneca Valley for the first time. The Jags lose to the Screaming Eagles on their homecoming, 42-13. Both teams were 4-0 coming to the game.
  • Oct 8, 1999 - The Jags record their first shutout in school history, a 42-0 victory over Rockville HS.
  • Oct 29, 1999 - Montgomery County 2A Player of the Year Ray Custis rushes for 300+ yards against Richard Montgomery HS. Coach Trivers announces after the game that Custis was offered by Maryland Head Coach Mark Duffner a scholarship to play football for the Terrapins.
  • Nov 5, 1999 - The first graduating class in school history plays one last time at home, shutting out B-CC HS, 33-0, to capture the 2A Division Title.
  • The shutout of B-CC HS completes the "payback" season by defeating all four of the teams that NW played to and lost in the previous season, including Einstein HS, Poolesville HS, and Walter Johnson HS. The Jags outscored those four teams, 139-18 compared to 1998 when the Jags were outscored, 39-181.
  • Nov 12, 1999 - Northwest plays its first playoff game at Urbana HS. The Jags loses to the eventual State Champion Hawks. That same year, Seneca Valley won their 3rd straight 4A State Championship.
  • Oct 6, 2000 - The Jags defeat Seneca Valley in a 19-14 thriller at home. This evens the series with the cross-town juggernaut rival at 1-1.
  • Oct 13, 2000 - The Jags score 50+ for the first time in school history by defeating Poolesville, 53-21.
  • Nov 11, 2000 - The Jags finish the regular season with 4 shutouts, outscoring the opposition 129-0. The Jags had 6 shutouts in 2000.
  • Nov 18, 2000 - The Jags lose to Edmondson-Westside HS in a game that NWHS looked to have had in the books only to lose in the waning seconds on a fleaflicker.
  • 2001 - The Jags move from the 2A to the 3A division.
  • Sep 7, 2001 - The Jags suffered a  shutout by Damascus HS 13-0. It was the first time in 3 years that The Jags were held to 0 points. The last team to shutout NW was also Damascus in October 2, 1998.
  • The Week 2, or Sep 14, games in 2001 were cancelled due to the September 11 attacks of our Nation. The Jags would not resume play until week 3 against Quince Orchard HS.
  • Oct 12, 2001 - The Jags lose to Richard Montgomery HS, 21-20 in the first overtime game in team history.
  • Oct 19, 2001 - The Jags lose to Seneca Valley HS ending their playoff hopes. SVHS Head Coach Terry Changuris later creates the King's Trophy. The Jags finish the regular season with 2 straight shutouts.
  • Nov 9, 2001 - Eugene King, the remaining member of the inaugural team plays in his last game as a Jag, a 35-0 rout of Einstein HS.
  • 2002 - Mrs Sylvia Morrison replaces Dr. Ed Shirley as the new principal of NWHS.
  • 2002 - Jim Tapley replaces Tom Manuel as the next Athletic Director.
  • 2002 - The Maryland State Championships are moved from Maryland's Byrd Stadium to Baltimore Ravens' stadium.
  • Sep 5, 2002 - The Jags open the season against Damascus and gets shutout again; this is the 3rd shutout in five years that the Jags suffered; all three coming from Damascus.
  • Oct 11, 2002 - the county is on lockdown after the "DC-Area Sniper" terrorizes the county. Many of the county's teams practiced indoors and in undisclosed locations. It took three weeks after week 5 to play week 7 games. The Jags would shutout the last four teams of the regular season, 127-0. County teams had to play four games in two weeks.
  • October 30, 2002 - Northwest shutout eventual State Champion Seneca Valley, 22-0
  • Nov 15, 2002 - The Jags hosts a playoff game for the first time; they defeated a loaded Wilde Lake HS team, 19-7 to capture the school's first Regional crown. The Jags would eventually fall to Linganore HS, 13-6, the following week. Linganore advances to the State Championship game where they lost to Seneca Valley.
  • 2003 - The Maryland playoffs are expanded for the first time since the 1980s; From eight teams in a class to 16.
  • Sep 2003 - Hurricane Katrina shuffles the county football schedule.
  • Sep 25, 2003 - The Jags shutout B-CC HS 55-0. The 55 points breaks the single game record for most points scored by NW in a game. The previous record was 53 against Poolesville in 2000.
  • Oct 4, 2003 - The Jags finally puts up points against Damascus by scoring on the first play from scrimmage when QB Ike Whitaker ran 47 yards for the score. The Jags would still lose, 27-20.
  • Oct 31, 2003 - Northwest wins at Seneca Valley in a 37-34 thriller. This was the first time either team won on their opponent's home field. It was also the on-field debut of The King's Trophy.
  • Nov 7, 2003 - The Jags defeat Wheaton HS 32-20 on Seniors Night. It was the first Seniors' Night game that the Jags did not post a shutout. From 1999-2002, All Senior's Night opponents were outscored, 132-0.
  • Nov 15, 2003 - The Jags get crushed by Linganore HS 35-6. The Jags were scoring 38.2 ppg prior to the first round blowout. This also became the final game for defensive coordinator Mike Neubeiser.
  • Sep 17, 2004 - The game vs Paint Branch was called because of lightning and it was continued the next morning.
  • Oct 8, 2004 - The Jags score 56 against Kennedy HS. It becomes the most points scored in a game by a NW team. It broke the 55 points it scored against B-CC just two weeks earlier-- a 55-0 mirror victory of 2003.
  • Oct 15, 2004 - The Jags defeat Einstein HS 40-25. It was the Jags' 50th victory in school history.
  • Oct 29, 2004 - The Jags lose to Seneca Valley 36-35 at home. It was the Eagles' first victory at The Black Hole. The defeat proved costly because it cost the Jags the division title, the King's Trophy, the #1 state ranking (Northwest was #2 for the last two weeks prior to the game), and it was the closest the team ever was to an undefeated 14-0 season. It was also the first time the Jags had ever lost on Senior's night. The 8-game win-streak prior to the SV game was the Jags' record of consecutive victories in a row.
  • Nov 13, 2004 - The Jags open the playoff with a victory over Urbana HS, 26-16; a beautiful payback for the L the Jags suffered in 1999.
  • Nov 19, 2004 - The Jags destroys Frederick HS 41-27 to win the school's second regional crown. It was a revenge of the shocking 2000 game against the Cadets. This also marks the Jags' positive win streak against Frederick County schools.
  • Dec 3, 2004 - The Jags win the first State title in school history with a 14-9 victory over previously unbeaten Lackey HS. This was Lackey HS's second state title game appearance in two years.
  • 2005 - The Jags move from Class 3A to Class 4A.
  • Sep 16, 2005 - The Jags play the Eagles for the 7th annual battle for the King's Trophy in a game televised by VOLI Sports.
  • Oct 21, 2005 - The Jags gets shutout by Quince Orchard 12-0. It was the first time the Jag were shutout since 2002.
  • Nov 11, 2005 - The Jags lost the final game of the season 21-20 to Richard Montgomery HS. It was just the second time in 7 years that the Jags lost in Senior's night. The Jags would finish 5-5, their first non winning season since 1998. Four of the five loses were very close, they include a 14-7 final drive L to Seneca Valley, a 21-20 final minute L to Whitman, and th 16-14 L to eventual 4A State Champion Damascus.
  • Sep 21, 2006 - the Jags defeat Walter Johnson HS 60-14 (46-point margin). The 60 points is the new high in most points scored in a game. This game vaguely resembles the last time 60 points were scored on the board- it was when the Wildcats defeated Northwest on the very same field in 1998, 62-17 (45-point margin).
  • Nov 11, 2006 - The Jags defeat Richard Montgomery 53-7 to complete the Jaguars' first undefeated regular season.
  • Dec 1, 2006 - The Jags play their 100th game.
  • Jun 15, 2007 - After a workout, Coach Trivers announces to the team that he has accepted a coaching position at Syracuse University.
  • Jun 17, 2007 - SUATHLETICS.COM announces that Syracuse University Head Football Coach Greg Robinson has hired Randy Trivers as the new runningbacks coach for SU.
  • Jun 17, 2007 - Coach Trivers has finally cleared the football office of all his belongings and leaves NWHS at 11:38 am. He will depart for Syracuse, NY later in the afternoon.
  • Jun 22, 2007 - Principal Sylvia Morrison announces Andrew Fields as the new head coach at the school auditorium. Parents, coaches, current players, alums, and the media were on hand to see the announcement.
  • Sep 20, 2007 - Northwest wins its first game of the season by defeating Richard Montgomery 26-14. The Jags' last regular season victory came against the Rockets on the same field just over 10 months before.
  • Oct 5, 2007 - In the Hall of Fame game, Northwest defeats Wootton, 30-6. It will be the one and only win for the Jags at the Black Hole that year. Football players inducted to the Hall of Fame includes Raymond Custis, Anwar Phillips, and French Pope.
  • Oct 26, 2007 - Despite a 6-0 lead throughout the game, Northwest loses to Springbrook 12-6 in overtime. It marks the first defeat Northwest has suffered in a Homecoming game. Northwest is now 0-2 in overtime.
  • Nov 2, 2007 - Northwest is demolished by Quince Orchard 41-12 on Seniors' Night. Northwest is now 1-3 on Seniors' Night after going 5-0.
  • Nov 9, 2007 - despite a lopsided victory over Walter Johnson, the Jags allowed the Wildcats to score 19 points. That is the most any team has allowed them to score in four years.
  • January 20, 2009 - Andrew Fields steps down as head coach to take an administrative job at Damascus High School.
  • Feb 24, 2009 - Athletic Director Jim Tapley publicly announces Mark Maradei as the new head coach of Northwest football. Players, parents, alumni, and coaches were present in the meet and greet at the school's auditorium.
